Capturing the Essence of Shadows in the Daybreak: A Commercial Branding Session with Nathan Granner & Jamie Chamberlain by Bauman Photographers
Recommended by our friend and client, Melody Moore, Nathan Granner came to Bauman Photographers with a mission and vision of the perfect branding session that would encapsulate all that his newest album, Shadows in the Daybreak, represented– and that he did! From our first emails & meetings to the branding session itself, we worked alongside Nathan to create & plan a shoot that matched his vision, as well as the intention & structure behind the album.
Building the Vision for the Session
Nathan knew that he wanted to host the shoot at the Dawnridge, a stunning maximalist estate designed by Tony Duquette. Owned by a close friend of Jamie & Nathan’s– and Duquette’s mentee– Hutton Wilkinson, it was the perfect place to capture intense and dramatic imagery reflecting the album. With the location decided, it only made it easier for us to begin our planning for their commercial branding session. Through calls & emails, we were able to curate a vision board that paired the bright and glamorous vision they had for their session with the themes of the album. This board served as a visual guide, encapsulating the two main ideas:
- Maximalism: Nathan & Jamie wanted their branding session to be as bold & bright as the location that we shot in, the Tony Duquette House as they felt it best matched not only their personalities, but the tracks they had hand-selected to be a part of their album.
- Classic Elegance: Though we stepped into bolder territory, Nathan & Jamie wanted to bring a classic feel, almost inspired the Opera greats that inspired them throughout their career; because of this, we implemented techniques such as Chiaroscuro that have been used in paintings, portraiture, & more, similar to Sang Song’s artistic headshots.
Once planned, Nathan & Jamie took the time to sit down with a member of our team to assist with the styling & fashion of the shoot. Over Zoom, they took the time to plan their outfits for the commercial branding session, going through the options that Nathan & Jamie had curated & selecting the best options to match not only the luxurious & bold decor but the music itself.
Capturing Brilliance during the Branding Session
When it came to the day of, it was time to enjoy! Beginning with hair & makeup for Nathan, he was artfully taken care of by a member of our team, Sara, so he would look his best for the images. Once out of the makeup chair, we began shooting immediately. The session’s setting at Tony Duquette’s house provided an over-the-top backdrop, echoing the grandeur of the music and the fun and witty personalities of Nathan and Jamie.
This commercial branding session, set in the opulent surroundings of Tony Duquette’s house and captured by Bauman Photographers, beautifully encapsulated the essence of Nathan Granner and Jamie Chamberlain’s new album, “Shadows in the Daybreak.” With a vision that blended light and dark, old Hollywood glamour, and a maximalist aesthetic, the session was a testament to the enduring power of classical music and visual artistry.
